Rapha Talk: Off the Record

A young Dean Downing riding at the track

Last night 30 of Rapha's top customers were treated to an intimate question and answer session with Rapha Condor pros, Dean Downing and Chris Newton plus team manager, John Herety. Cycling commentator David Harmon was there to field questions and ask a few of his own about life inside the peloton.

Held at the Covent Garden Hotel, the talk was a fascinating discussion including insights into Chris' first race as a 13 year old, Dean's long family history of bike racers, John Herety's exploits racing in the Eastern Bloc, being a lonely amateur in Belgium, the state of British cycling and lots of juicy stuff we can't mention here. There were also plenty of jibes and jokes, including ones about Mr. Herety's hair (or lack of).

An excellent evening, and a big thanks to everyone involved.

I was fascinated with the track cycling discussion, and the coordination involved. With the daily task of getting out of the house, with bag, keys and iPhone, without dropping something, I think I will stick with straight forward road cycling!

A really interesting discussion which could easily have run for another couple of hours. More of these please!

quick question, how are Rapha's 30 top customers identified?

Customers who we have had a longstanding relationship with, Rapha Condor Club members, former team riders and friends and partners. We couldn't offer tickets to everyone so decided to select a number of people we felt obliged to cater for. It was a Rapha event but with an obvious Rapha Condor team focus. Perhaps the word 'top' suggests exclusivity which is something we all sometimes enjoy.
