RAPHA RISING

And you thought the Festive 500 was hard. During the course of this year's Tour de France (beginning Saturday in case you've been under a rock) we challenge you to climb the same amount of elevation as the pros over the six high mountain stages in the Pyrenees and the Alps.
This totals out at 21,125m of climbing, confirmed by our friends at ASO. What the pros will do in nine days you will have 22 to complete.
Document the entire process with camera, computer, pen or otherwise for a chance to win a whole host of Tour de France-inspired prizes.
Just go to our Facebook page to post your progress.
Good luck.
Prizes:
1st - Galibier Jersey
2nd - Etape Jersey Acte I
3rd - Galibier poster
4th - Great Road Climbs of the Southern Alps
5th - Le Tour album

Brian, it is actually 21,125m now. Still a lot of rulers however.

33,570m for us Imperial folks is 110,140 feet which works out to 4790 feet per day over 23 days. Quite a challenge!

Rapha changed it to 21,125m, so that now comes out to 3015 feet per day over 23 days. A little bit more manageable, if you don't have a job, wife, kids or friends.

Hi Andre, yes considering the only way to do this would be 16 times (? – maths isn't my best subject) up Swains Lane every day then I'd have to add 'brain' to your list of things not to have.

I'm up for the challenge. I am trying to do some math now. I live in Miami and the only "climb" we have is the Key Biscayne Bridge. A 400 meter bridge with a 6% elevation.. Can someone help me do the math.. How many times do I need to go up that bridge?????

Alpine Dam Loop, out & back from San Francisco, is 5,624ft/1715m of climbing. 22 consecutive days would add up to 123,728ft/37,712m. Easy enough. I'll give it a go!

Not sure if I rate that as a challenge ;) Check out what I'm up to at www.cycling2011.com Oops - just realised my Raid Pyrenees was a waste of time as I did it before the challenge starts. Anyway, with Alps & Dolomites left it should be OK. And all of it with only Rapha gear! ( bibs, arm & leg warmers, base layer, rain jacket & backpack)
Interested? iainmackie@mac.com

I'll give it a try.
Planning on including some of the California Eastern Sierras climbs (during the last week), which are rated top U.S. climbs that are both higher and longer than the TdF climbs. Looking especially forward to Tioga Pass in Yosemite National Park.

Is the competition aspect how creatively documented the attempt is like the Festive 500?
Most certainly going to give it a go. A badge would be nice.
