The broom wagon, or 'la voiture-balai', was introduced to the Tour in 1910, the year the race first went into the high mountains. The broom wagon follows the last rider on the road and when it catches struggling riders, they must climb off their bikes and retire, handing in their race numbers as the van sweeps up the remnants of the peloton. The vintage Citroen 'H-Van', a popular model used for such duties, has become a recognisable Rapha ambassador at road races and events around the world. In fact, we now have a fleet of four, acting as reliable service vehicles (most of the time) for Rapha rides and events when, in addition to picking up stragglers, it also serves the finest coffee and food. The Rapha H-Van is also a fixture in Rapha Cycle Clubs worldwide.
