Piers North

Piers “Pottymouth” North was born in Maidenhead, England 31 years ago. He considers his decision to move, with fiancé Karen, to New York two years ago among his best ever, for both life in general and his riding and racing career. He is an art director at an agency called Mother, so he’s paid to have an opinion. To this day, he claims riding over the George Washington Bridge as the sun is coming up over Manhattan is better than anything he’s ever seen in the Alps. I think he even believes what he’s saying.
Pier's found cycling when his friend Adam died and left him his bike. He started riding around London where he met some couriers who introduced him to the track at Herne Hill. This led to racing and so much more.
One day he hopes to ride the Paris-Roubaix sportive. Until then, he’s happy riding 15 hours a week and doing whatever it takes to keep Karen and their hound, Alabama, happy. Piers sees riding with friends over long distances and the Continental as the ultimate antidote to racing crits and seven lap races. Familiar with riding in Europe and the racing scene there, he’s quick to point out the lack of romance and soul indicative of American racing culture. He’s looking to summon-up some of the sentimental and romantic qualities that he misses from home, the things that make riding so special. The stories he wants to have, and come to tell, are about emotional journeys hundred miles at a time.

"Speed needs to be demonstrated as one man’s fast is another man’s slow, I’ll see you on the road and you can judge for yourself. Besides, my favorite local rider is this guy who must be 200 pounds. He rides around the park in a world championship jersey all winter on a time trial bike and a five-thousand dollar wheelset, it’s enough to warm me up in the middle of February every time. Who cares if he’s fast."
