"It was still really cold that morning and I was struggling to make sense of my bike and the day. So the first substantial climb of the day hit me hard. In the face. You know when it's all you can to trust things will sort out. You stop trying to enjoy any aspect of your reality. You just turn-off and and stop taking messages from your limbs and nerve endings. WILL BE BACK IN FIVE MINUTES, or when the sun comes out and my legs warm-up."
– Daniel
"We stopped at a Safeway not five minutes after disembarking the boat to get sandwiches. I ran a Turkey Club with no mayo. I don't like mayonnaise or mayonnaise based salads and spreads. The day started fast, riding on the freeway in the dark, but at this point it was starting to drag. Did I mention I hate waiting. Five different times I look for Daniel in an effort to get this party started and he's back in line buying something else."

“As I disembark the vessel I’m flooded with memories from Tahuya-Seabeck-Tahuya 2006. I reckon it’s akin to surviving something like Donner Pass, that Peruvian Soccer (Football) Team Thing or a trip to Mordor with Frodo the ring leader, I’m left with a piercing bone chill that can drop me to my knees in half a second. It was the coldest race I’ve ever done. I try to play it off and take control by telling stories. The shivering, loss of control, the swerving all over the road before stalling out half tipped over into the side of a van. Our crew laughing and making fun of me for ten minutes before they realize I’m seriously stuck in my pedals mid crash. It takes quality time in a sleeping bag in the van and 45 minutes of aggressive tea consumption before I return to normal. Nobody cares and Daniel wont stop talking about the sausage soup and his new camera.”
