Part 2 - Riding

"Our little group, leaving well after our prescribed start time, made a wrong turn right off the bat. We gingerly climbed in what, everyone sensed, was the wrong direction. Eventually, a guy on the most euro-tricked and raced-out XC mountain bike (heeled with road slicks) came bombing in the opposite direction and yelling in a thick German accent. We flipped it and I wondered just exactly how the next 10 hours were going to unfold."
- Pierre Vanden Borre

"Pierre asked me after the ride whether I had to get off and walk on the 22% dirt climb. I told him I did. I told him that I just couldn't get any traction in the mud and that my gearing was too low. What I didn't tell him was that I had to walk on two other climbs as well."
- Piers North
"While the road bikes worked beautifully for the ride there were some flats. Most notably when Jeremy caught air and simultaneously double-flatted on the most technical part of the ride, which comes more than 100 miles in."
- Pierre Vanden Borre

DAN ACTION:
1: "Is this the right way?" 2: Asked by another rider: "Is it some kind of joke that you guys are riding those bikes?" 3: Exclaimed by another rider at about 15 miles in: "You're riding with a double!" As if to give me warning that someone had sabotaged my bike and left me to endure the next one hundred and ten miles with only two chainrings. 4: "Was that your bottle back there?" 5: "This is not a road!"
" It wasn't until I started riding that I realized you can't read size 10 font when chattering down a washboard dirt road."
- Pierre Vanden Borre
