“One of my favorite climbs in the world. This morning the valley to south is still barely touched by the sun and pilot rock, an old beacon offering direction and reference to weary travelers, is obscured by clouds. The road is torn-up, erosion winning the battle against funding and repair, but the air is clean and the traffic is light. And my legs are feeling the best they have in months.” - Ryan
Thompson
“Sometimes I get lucky and find something useful, tools usually. My shop benefits from several such found objects. Today I find a hacksaw, which is kind of a large find at mile 16 of a 95 mile bike ride. But I couldn’t resist. It was sitting on top of the guard rail, next to a piece of sawed off re-bar. Someone must have made the cut and walked away and forgot about it.” – Tony Pereira
“We head out of town spinning and chatting until we come to a couple of switchbacks signaling the climb. The surface is smooth asphalt. With every turn it get’s prettier, steeper and colder. By the time we get to summit I’m working 95%, freezing and the clouds, which were low and eerie all morning long, lift to reveal an incredibly green and mountainous landscape. I think, ‘this is going to be a great ride.” – Greg Johnson
