#oneoftheseplease: week five

Wool is highly respected around Rapha headquarters. From the inspirational jerseys of yore to the thick socks that provide so much needed warmth on our winter rides. The versatility of Merino Wool is one that has been chronicled more than once within these pages. We have heard from more than one person that they have gone so far as to throw out all their old underwear and replace them with the Merino Boxers.. That's the miracle of merino. Whatever the case may be, this all-purpose natural wonder is the basis for #oneoftheseplease week five.
Base Layers

The merino wool base layers cannot be beat. It is a slippery slope with these undergarments. First you get them — maybe in a bundle — and you start by wearing them every time you ride on the road. Then you're subbing them in to your morning commute wear because they just work better than a t-shirt. Next, you reach for them when the weather is a bit cool and you're looking for something to wear to bed…and it is all over from there. And as we have heard through our customer service crew, they are the most often stolen piece by significant others.
Pendleton Blanket

It doesn't matter where you get this, just make sure that when the cold snap rolls in you have a woolen blanket handy. At one time in the US there were almost 1,000 woolen mills around the country. Now there are under ten left and two of them belong to the Pendleton Woolen Mills here in Oregon. They have also been updating their clothing styles in the past few seasons with their "Pendleton Collection" of clothes that have been featured everywhere from Saks Fifth Avenue to the fashion forward Men's boutique Stag in Austin, Texas. The Pendleton Collection also features updates to some of their classic styles for the ladies such as the Montana Tunic.
Filson Mackinaw Wool Vest

There are a variety of ways to wear the Filson Wool Vest. Layered under your favorite waxed cotton jacket for an added layer of warmth or over a shirt or sweatshirt for that backwoods look, the Filson Vest can do it all. It also has the coveted cache of being made in the Pacific Northwest city of Seattle. Our Customer Service Manager in the US has been lusting after one of these for quite some time now, so Tim has officially added this to his #oneoftheseplease list.
Merino Drawcord Hat

A new product for us this season the Drawcord Hat has been a hit with many including Team Rapha-FOCUS. The dual nature of the cap allows for its use in a variety of situations. Cinch the top and wear it as a beanie in the team tent. Conversely, pull it down over your head for added neck protection when checking out chilly cyclocross courses.
Norse Projects Slalom Scarf

Why stop at just riding gear for your neck? Norse Projects 100% Merino Wool scarf is the perfect transition from the road into your everyday wear. The simple stripes may perfectly compliment your favorite jersey, but at that point, who knows but you? Since we are over at Need Supply (one of our other favorite online retailers) we would be remiss to mention.
Patagonia Wetsuit

Let's go a bit extreme here for a second. All this talk of wool brought up one of our favorite subjects here in the Portland office — The Malloy Brothers — pioneering types who formed part of the inspiration that helped create the Rapha Continental. Well, these wetsuits blend merino wool with polyester for additional warmth without rubber. Which means that you can get out in the frigid waters off the coast of Oregon without turning blue.
Merino Wash

Now, what to do with all your new merino goods when laundry day happens? Just for these situations we have produced one fine Merino Wash. It also has a natural cedar odor in it to ready your wool pieces for storage in the warmer months. Who are we kidding? We use this stuff all year round, there's no need to store it. (Not for use with wet suits.)
E-Vouchers
Just a quick note here. If you have left things a little too late to get your friends and family a physical gift, you can save your bacon by endowing them with a Rapha E-Voucher, redeemable at Rapha.cc for a wealth of beautiful products.
