World-Tour proven waterproof shell

On hard rides or races in changeable conditions riders need a breathable and waterproof outer shell that will protect them from the worst of the weather and won’t cause them to overheat. The Rapha Pro Team Race Cape is that garment.

This season’s updated version is made of a new performance fabric by Polartec that is both highly breathable and offers superior protection from the elements. Also new for 2016 is a small zip pocket on the left side of the jacket, for easy access to an energy bar or gel.

A favourite garment of pro racers such as WIGGINS’ Owain Doull, who says it “almost feels like a normal jersey”, the Race Cape is tailored for a close ‘Pro Team fit’ and has extra features such as zipped cuffs and fully-taped seams. The jacket packs down into a compact bundle and fits in a jersey pocket.

A dropped tail keeps road spray off of the back of your jersey, and the fabric has a slight stretch to allow the jacket to keep its shape over fully-loaded pockets.

The zip has a textured puller for easy use when wearing gloves, and the zipped cuffs make it easy to remove the jacket while on the bike, as well as providing ventilation. The cape also has a bonded strip at the elbows for you to cut around, if you prefer your waterproof short-sleeved.

N.B. To maintain and protect your waterproof products we recommend using Rapha Apparel Re-Proofer »

Reviews:

"Rapha makes some bloody good kit and the Race Cape is a prime example. It looks great even in hard-to-pull-off fluoro yellow ('chartreuse' in Rapha-speak) and fit and comfort is superb. Designed with performance in mind - with input from Team Sky - it's snug, with a shorter front so it keeps its shape when you're on the drops. The zip has a storm flap, the cuffs are zipped, it breathes really well and is highly waterproof." - Cycling Plus, March 2015

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Try stopping me now... The first time I wore this, within hours of using it I hated it - It was warm, too warm, I felt the arms ran a tad long and perhaps this was not the product I needed. On my way back I knew I was going to return this... then it started raining (I was wearing it knowing it was going to rain but it had not started yet).... Oh boy - what a mistake, the cape is PERFECT. No longer warm, kept me dry, comfortable and understood the arm length of the cape. So good was this cape that just before I got home, I did a U-turn and rode another 18km in the rain just because... It fits great (did not need to up-size) and it is a key piece for me. I have used it a few times now and now understand that its a terrible wind cape, so I learned to use it as it was deigned. Perfect for me who loves to ride in the rain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best jacket on the market I don't think you will find a better cycling jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the money I did not have the opportunity to use this cape too many times, but I know it is a very good purchase. Matrial is doing its job during the downpour, but it is important to use the re-proofer for washing, and after using the spray for waterproof clothing. Despite the high price, it is worth to have it in your cycling wardrobe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for the Australian Winter! I wanted more than a rain jacket and this garment is precisely that. It has kept me both dry and warm in conditions down to 3-4 celsius, wearing only a base layer, summer jersey and arm warmers underneath. This wasn't an expense - it was an investment and one I'm very happy I made. Wearing it makes it easy to head out in cold, wet and windy conditions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent weather jacket I bought XL on a 95KG frame and its tight, but the sleeves are long for the reach in the drops. Very good weather proofing, and worn with layers is brilliant

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It hasn't rained once! This is by far the best jacket I've ever owned. After the purchase, it has not rained once in Seattle! The jacket is still unused in my closet; I'm sure it'll get some use sooner or later, but definitely worth the price for a couple of weeks of decent weather. Especially after this last winter...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent fabric, not a Featherwight The cut is very good good, long arms and a dropped tail. I've been really impressed with the Polartec fabric and have used the gilet-version of this jacket extensively throughout the year. The fabric is very breathable and fully waterproof, very impressive. In terms of fit the jacket is very good, I think it could be improved with a drawstring around the bottom hem to help with cinching-in the drop tail when worn over a jersey with full rear pockets (particularly during Winter months when carrying more). The jacket doesn't pack down as small as some, to me this is it's weakest feature but one worth living with to get a jacket that is breathable as well as waterproof. I'd happily wear the jacket over a base layer for cold and wet Winter riding when I didn't expect to need to take it off.

Does the race cape have any sort of venting under the arms?

I have the 1st ed. rain Jacket in M; was too long in the arms & flaps a bit. I imagine this will be more breathable. Would a SM be best or is the pro team in M likely to be apt? 180cm, 70kg, slim.

Asked by: Conzaa
The Pro Team Range is a tighter fitting garment and is technically designed to be a race fit and thus has longer arms to accommodate a racing position on te bike. For the Pro Team Range based upon your dimensions a size Medium could be an appropriate fit. We do have a 90 day returns policy should the garment not meet with your specifications.

Hi, I take a S in the brevet, classic ss jersey and long sleeve pro team but take a M in pro team ss jersey, I am 174cm, 70kg ave with 95cm chest. The S in the race cape is good in length & sleeves but tight in chest and M is good in chest - help pls.

Asked by: Mbike
The Pro Team Range will always have a more tighter fit then the more relaxed range of the Brevet garments and as such the Race Caps can feel a more tighter fit. If this is too restrictive you can always go for a size up on the Race Cape. We do have a 90 day returns policy if the garment does not meet you personal specifications.

I currently wear a pro team rain gilet in size medium (gives space for jersey pockets).  I wear a pro team aero jersey in medium for my arm size. I can also fit the small pro team gilet for a snug pro fit.  Would you recommend small for the race cape?

Asked by: Albie
The Race Cape in Medium should be a good fit based upon what you have described.

Hi. How's the size on this jacket compared to the wind jacket? I wear a large in the wind jacket. I'm 184cm and 80kg fairly athletic build. And my body measures says that i should go for a medium. I'm afraid that's going to be tight. What do you think?

Asked by: Martinsen
Hi, the Pro Team Race Cape has a closer fit, race ready cut compared to the Wind Jacket. It can be recommended to try the size Large. Should you need to exchange, we have a 90 days return period.

Hi I wear a large brevet jersey, what size in this please?

Asked by: Shorn
Hi, this jacket does have a closer, race ready fit but we generally recommend you order the same size. If your Brevet Jersey is already very tight, you may want to size up one size for the Pro Team Race Cape.

Is the 2016 version more breathable than previous year? and if so by what amount?

Asked by: SZabel
Hi, this jacket is now made from Polartec Neoshell fabric and is more breathable than last years Race Cape. It is hard to advise an exact amount but the difference is noticeable.
