That's called 'chiaroscuro' . . .

very nice pictures - but but …… as allways no one is wearing a helmet !!!! I have ridden for many years in the mountains but also seen many bad crashes - so please do not make these videos with riders with no helmets on - please….

@ole: Good to hear that you have ridden many years in the mountains. I love them too. Sad to hear that you have seen many bad crashes. But I do not agree that styrofoam capped riders will prevent any of these.
Amazing, it must be true that believers in foamed polystyrene who deliberately deface themselves with ugly headgear have an insatiable desire to imposition others to do the same.
I think Rapha is doing a wonderful job in equipping - and as we've seen - picturing cyclists in less blatant dressings than usual. If one prefers watching screechy colored parrots on two wheels, I suggest switching to regular sport coverage on TV. There also car drivers wear helmets, which is unheard of in normal life. But this and the fact that I've seen much more car crashes than accidents with bicycles will never make me wearing a helmet in cars let alone convincing others to follow.

Beautifully filmed and awe inspiring, with helmets or without!
Keep it coming, I'm off out on my bike even though there's snow outside!

actually 'chiaroscuro' means light and shade: in order to make an object seem dark, place it against something lighter. and vice versa.
just saying.

Agree with the comment from Gero. Why do people feel the need to preach about wearing a helmet? Rapha are showcasing their products (not helmets) and it makes no sense to cover them up.
Lovely films, making me wish I was riding in Italy on these quiet roads in amongst such beautiful scenery!

Lovely films. They seem to capture the silent beauty of the mountains and the solo suffering of climbing quite majestically.

Nice little films. Is that second one on the Falzarego, and the climbing one somewhere on the Sella/Pordoi loop?
How does one find out where these places are? I'd love to know where the rough roads in the photo album are as well, such as this shot:

I think it might be near the Tres Cimes but there was no response to my question on the flickr page.
Cheers,

Hello Steve, sorry about the wall of silence that met your question on flickr.
The climbing video was shot coming up towards the top of the Passo Pordoi from the Canazei side and the second one was shot around the hotel at the top of the Pordoi.
The rough road in question can be found heading up towards a ski station on the Arabba side of the Pordoi, I don't recommend trying to drive a car up it…

Hi James,
Thanks for that! We did quite a few climbs around there in 2009. It's amazing how the atmosphere of a place changes it in your memory: We stayed at the rifugio on the Valparola just a couple of km from the Falzarego, so we were at the Falzaraego first thing in the morning when it was cold and quiet, so it looked quite like your film of the Passo Pordoi. The Pordoi on a hot day at lunchtime, heaving with tourists had a totally different vibe…
Cheers, and thanks for the pointer to the ski station road…
