Monte Carpegna

Par Joe Hall • 14th February 2011 11:17am • Publié dans Rides

Footage of the 1973 Giro d'Italia from Jørgen Leth's wonderful documentary Stars and Watercarriers. Monte Carpegna, with a 22% max grade, was Marco Pantani's favourite training climb. “It’s on Carpegna that I’ve prepared for all my victories – Carpegna is all I need”. The climb also features on day three of Rapha's Randonnée Appennini.

"Carpegna mi basta" is painted all over this climb. At a couple moments though I swore it should have said "Carpegna, you bastard".

Great video. I really like that music in the background, so melancholic.

Valentine day is not the same since 2004, rest in peace Marco.
