A stunning visual compendium of cycling’s obsession with the mountains
Mountains Epic Cycling Climbs is an awe-inspiring collection of photographs that demonstrate the beauty of the mountains. For over a century the mountains of Europe have provided the setting for great cycling contests, where human determination and willpower can triumph over nature and opposition. Photographed over a period of three years by professional photographer Michael Blann, these images capture these alpine landscapes throughout the seasons and during the competition of Grand Tours, when the roads to their summits are transformed with the cacophony of millions of fans.
Under pinning the work are essays from leading current and former professional cyclists, including Romain Bardet, Greg LeMond, Stephen Roche, Geraint Thomas, Lizzie Armitstead, Robert Millar and Andy Hampsten, who recount their memories and personal stories of their days in the mountains. A reference section includes maps and profiles of key climbs, including Mont Ventoux, Passo dello Stelvio and Alpe d’Huez.
