Hawaii Raid

14th - 19th 1月 2018

Ride from volcanoes to tropical beaches in this friendly land of contrasts.

This circumnavigation of Hawaii’s Big Island will take Rapha riders on an unexpected journey from barren, snow-bound peaks to arid deserts, lush rainforests and the sparkling waters of the Pacific. We will take in roads from the tough Ironman course, and the formidable ascent of Mauna Kea – the second longest continuous road climb in the world. Hawaii is a bountiful land of contrasts, with hippy surfing beaches, authentic back country farms and charming old towns like Hilo, and you’ll be greeted with a friendly, laid-back vibe everywhere you go. Swim with turtles, visit coffee plantations, and escape the winter for some amazing cycling. Aloha!

Who is it for?

Reconnect with your love for the bike and exploration. Raids are designed for independent riders with a thirst for going off the beaten track, and exploring lesser-known but nonetheless spectacular destinations and roads. You’ll still have access to a Rapha guide, full mechanical and logistical support, but the emphasis is on self-sufficiency, creating an adventure through wild and unspoilt landscapes. Each night we’ll greet you with hearty food and charming, rustic accommodation, to prepare you for another day’s exploring. It is cycling taken back to the essentials: a bike, a fantastic route to ride, and the self-imposed challenges that brings.

How Hard is it?

Because of the emphasis on challenging terrain and self-sufficiency, Raids suit the more confident, athletic rider, or groups of friends who may already have done a multi-day trip and want to challenge themselves further.

FAQ

Am I strong enough for the trip?

All our trips are physically demanding, but some are harder than others. Raids are among the toughest with roads and terrain off the beaten track and Retreats are among the most relaxing. Our guides and mechanics will support every rider to go beyond their usual level of riding. Each individual trip is rated for difficulty.

What kind of assistance can riders expect on the road?

When you’re riding you’ll always have at least one ride guide on the road with the group. Raids are more self-sufficient than a Randonnee, so while a mechanic will be available they won't be tracing the route or offering on-road support during the day. Your guides will be able to help you out with ride food and drink, as well as local knowledge, first aid, a morale-boosting chat and – if necessary – a hand to push you up the hill if you’ve run out of energy.
