As per last year, would be great to get a route for the GPS….can you help?

James Fairbank

9th March 2011 02:06pm

We haven't uploaded the route Michael as part of it's run on private roads. The minor orienteering element also helps to stop it descending into a race.

There is no map to hell.

Ben Brown

Just some nice graphics pointing in the general direction.

Oh my lord, im literally SQUEALING with excitement - last years was so fun and hellish in equal measures. This year i plan to avoid an emotional breakdown by leaving the speedplay cleats at home - hell hath no fury like a lady who cannot clip in!

See you in hell people…

What tyres are suitable for this?

Do you have the map as a PDF?

Thanks!

Dear all, I rode last year. Anyone want a tcx or gpx file for their gps device I can send it out. There maybe a couple of places where I either turned round or made a slight diversion in places but I got home no probs. Twas a great day out. lee.shale@gmail.com

You should be able to export the tcx from this page.

I wouldn't follow it religiously as I may have skipped a gravé or two (accidentally of course) and missed a turn at Hereford

Julian King

11th March 2011 02:49pm

I'd be worrying if you missed a turn at Hereford!!!!

Sean Curran

To those who did the event last year - is the route doable on a 42x18 singlespeed? In other words, any hills that would prove impossible for an intermediate/advanced cyclist on a singlespeed?

I ask because I have a singlespeed cross which I hope I can get away with.

Konrad Manning

11th March 2011 08:33pm

I didn't do last year, but 'cross bikes are designed to be slung over your shoulder if things get a bit too steep ; )

Dominic Estall

13th March 2011 01:15pm

I'm hoping to do it on a singlespeed crosser too (42x20)

What is the start time anyone ?

Andrew Edwards

14th March 2011 06:15pm

Any views from last years attendees on transport arrangements? I don't think there are any trains from my neck of the woods so I thought drive over to a station that's suitable or park near the start or finish?

Sean Curran

15th March 2011 08:14am

Did anyone get any sort of confirmation after they registered for this ride?

Joe Hall

15th March 2011 09:54am

9am start time. This event is now SOLD OUT/FULL.

David Shannon

15th March 2011 04:55pm

Full? Isn't it FREE, like last year?

Joe Hall

15th March 2011 06:07pm

It is free, but we have a capacity to keep things under control. Sorry if you've missed out… I'm not going to be counting…

Tom Krause

16th March 2011 01:28pm

Joe,

how do we know if we got a place? Has an e-mail been sent out yet? I will be gutted if I can't ride this again!!!!

Joe Hall

17th March 2011 12:03pm

We'll be sending out an email early next week! Hold tight.

Tom Krause

22nd March 2011 08:06pm

Still holding tight!!!!

Mike Pearson

24th March 2011 10:57am

I understand the desire not to turn this into a race, but last year quite a few people got lost at various points, me included!

It would be nice if the route could be plotted on www.bikemap.net for emergency iPhone orientation if needed.

When was anounced that you had to book this year? As soon as it appeared in eleven for 2011 and the link sent you to last years details I assumed it was the same format.
Totally gutted.

Alan Watson

28th March 2011 05:58pm

I did it last year on a 48 x 17 single speed with 25c tyres. Was fine on that ratio, so 42 x 18 should be no problem ( so long as the current good weather holds!).

William Cookson

5th April 2011 12:54pm

Will there be anywhere secure to leave a bag on Sunday? Thanks!

Joe Hall

6th April 2011 10:53am

@William Cookson - Yeah, you can leave your bag in the H-Van at the start. Can't guarantee the H-Van will be at the finish but we'll look after it!

Chris Abbott

6th April 2011 08:21pm

Any plans for a garmin friendly route as I have a tendency to mindlessly follow people who can't read a route map only to feel reassured they are heading the correct way because so many people are following them.

Neil Almond

7th April 2011 02:52pm

I was planning to drive over and park near the finish and ride to the start. Is this a sesible plan, is there any parking? Also, is the pink map with rather sparse directions all we get or are there route markers along the way? If it's the former I'll make sure to take some signal flares with me for when I get lost……which I will…

Joe Hall

7th April 2011 05:46pm

Sounds like a grand plan. Parking in Highgate is free on Sunday but there are a lot of cars to negotiate. Best parking in a street near the Black Horse pub… http://goo.gl/maps/4TvF

And yes, there will be signs!! we're working on it…

Neil Almond

7th April 2011 06:01pm

Phew! I'll leave the flares at home then. Cheers Joe

Ben Brown

7th April 2011 06:19pm

The signs all point down in hell, FYI.

carl Keen

8th April 2011 06:58pm

Do you have any firm 'No showers' for Sunday. I penciled it in for my guys when it appeared in 'Eleven for 2011' and left it at that. Of course it's since become a registration only event.

So what's your take on five well behaved experienced riders tagging on….we promise not to eat your chips or drink your beer?
