High-performance cycling base layer cut for women riders

Rapha base layers are made from the highest grade of New Zealand merino wool. The fabric is extremely comfortable, wicks moisture superbly and is naturally breathable and odour resistant. The Women’s Short Sleeve Base Layer has been cut specifically for a female shape, with a neat, set-in v-neck that has a finer binding than the men’s version. Other features include set-in sleeves and flat lock stitching, designed to ensure the fabric won’t chafe and to eliminate rubbing from bib shorts and bag straps.

Reviews:

Given the versatility and the non-take-off-ability of the Rapha Women’s Sleeveless Base Layer, the price tag represents pretty good value. Merino is never cheap, and this garment certainly performs better than looser or scratchier merino products that have a slightly lower price point.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb! I have long pondered whether to shell out and get myself Rapha base layers but I'm so glad I did. They truly are the best base layers of any kind I've ever had for any sport. Being very active I have used lots of different layers of different compositions but the merino wool does simply excel. It's lovely and warm and light but at the same time is the only example of a base layer I've ever used that does actually serve to cool me down once it is damp. They are more expensive than layers with less merino content but the benefits far outweigh the cost. Treat yourself.. You'll be glad you did

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent base layer I now own 4 of these as I'm a year round commuter so need a few for the winter months. I use for chilly morning and evening rides and ok, call me soft, but when I say chilly I mean around the 9 to 17 degree mark, Sydney just doesn't get that cold! I wear under either a jersey with sleeves or a really great shell jacket that I have. They are form fitting and really comfortable. There is no scratchyness or itcy seams. It wicks sweat brilliantly and it keeps me a perfect temp. I was a doubter of the benefits of the base layer but after trying one of these haven't looked back. I'd say the sizing comes up pretty standard - I'm 5.7 and 67kgs, medium/athletic build and wear a medium. Oh, and they wash and wear brilliantly.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A few improvements... I bought this base layer because I can't find an XS merino vest anywhere else, and its perfect for winter layering and wearing in the summer. I do have another merino vest with a different cut that was falling apart so it was time to invest... A few improvements could be made on this vest, as a smaller rider (only 4"11.5) I'd prefer a shorter length vest. I think most companies go by an average size for riders, even in womens unfortunately. Once I tuck this vest into my tights it starts to look a bit silly as there's a lot of excess fabric for a shorter rider to tuck in. Also the cut at the front is too low for me, and as this particular merino fabric is lighter and more stretchy than what I've used in the past, a lot of the time it doesn't hold very well over my bust, showing the top of my bra so I have to keep on checking and pulling it up! I usually overheat wearing anything else in hot weather - so currently a little stuck on what else to wear. I'd still be able to wear this as an underlayer - but it would be good to take into account the stretch of fabrics and how this may fit on a womans shape. I've used merino fabrics before and usually it's super soft, though this fabric (perhaps because it's thinner? I'm not sure), but it doesn't feel as soft against my skin. Still I'm yet to find the perfect merino vest again, but this will have to do for now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect, so versatile and fits brilliantly I cannot fault this item. I already had one and I wear it all year round. The striped option was a nice variation and I have even been wearing it on *non-cycling days* as a vest top. The fit it superb, I take a large which fits nicely over the chest , is not too baggy around the waist and is the perfect length to tuck into waist shorts. Warm but also cool, highly breathable, an essential item in my cycling wardrobe.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Comfy but maybe too long for some people I got this in small but probably should go a size smaller for an tighter fit as the singlet has a lot of give. The fabric is very soft and thin but has kept my core warm even in zero degrees. Love the merino for its warmth and odour free properties. Was a bit worried about the length as it's long on me (5 ft 5) and when pulled down to full length comes right to the top of my butt but the benefit is my lower back and butt gets some an extra layer of warmth. Because it is thin, it doesn't feel bulky or show up as an ugly seam through my bibs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wore this for 4 days straight Bought this a month ago and can't take it off — wear it for sleeping, under sweaters and other shirts. Haven't worn it on the bike yet, since it arrived when weather got cold and I'm wearing more substantial base layers on the bike. Only caveat is that it stretches out quite a bit, so you may want to size down if you want a very fitted.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gorgeous to wear I bought this baselayer to wear on chilly autumn mornings as a top, not for cycling. In true Rapha style, it is thin enough to wear as a top, but warm enough for chillier days. I will definitely be wearing this in winter under a jersey in winter. However, for now, it perfect for those inbetween seasons.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super comfy vest I love, love, love this. I bought my first one 2 months ago, and have been wearing it all the time. I do think these run a bit large, so I got a second one in a smaller size and I'm much happier with the fit. They also wash really well, and haven't show any wear at all.

Hi, will either of these 2 colours show through a light coloured jersey?

Asked by: Learner
Hi, this Base Layer may be partially visible through some lightweight jerseys.

Hi I am in between sizes (35-29). Would you recommend small or medium? Thank you.

Asked by: Josee
Hi, due to the natural stretchiness of the Merino fabric we would recommend the smaller size. Base layers are meant to be fitted to the body. Should the garment not be suitable, we have a free 90 days returns period.
