Cycling over-shorts ideal for commuting

Rapha’s Touring Shorts are a road riding interpretation of the cycling overshorts known to mountain bikers as “baggies”. They are made from a lightweight, breathable fabric and are versatile enough for both urban commutes and longer rides.

Designed to be worn over bib shorts, Touring Shorts have a slim, contemporary cut to ensure they won’t flap in the wind while on the bike. Performance features include a non-slip panel in the waistband to hold the shorts in position when riding and satin tapes inside the hems to stop them catching on undershorts.

Other details include a special gusset to prevent chafing and easy-to-use waist adjusters. A zipped pocket at the front of the shorts is cut shallow to prevent objects digging into the leg when cycling and the shorts have an additional rear pocket for carrying valuables. Reflective piping on the back of the legs helps make the rider more visible when riding in poor light.

Reviews:

"If you don’t want the Lycra budgie-smuggling look or equally unflattering “baggies”, Rapha’s classically tailored touring shorts tick all the right boxes."
The 50 Best Cycling Gear
Simon Usborne: The Independent

‟These slim-fitting shorts have tech DNA, including zip pockets all around for security and a stretch nylon that moves as you pedal. Wear them alone for short missions or over your bibs for all-day affairs.”

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable pair of commuting baggies Got these to supplement my current pair which are just starting to show their age after about 6000 miles (they've gone a little shiny around the posterior but are still serviceable). These are great shorts - stretchy and close fitting on the bike and socially acceptable off it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More socially acceptable than bib shorts alone. A great short to give a more casual appearance. I wear them over my bib when I am going to be mixing riding for a few hours and spending some time off the bike (these shorts are more socially acceptable and less distracting for others - during meetings or at the bar - than bib shorts alone). As with all the Rapha apparel I own the fit is perfect. I appreciate having pockets in the shorts although these are small and I rarey use them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best MTB Shorts! Most MTB baggies look like you are going surfing or playing basketball. Not these! Great tailored fit yet more relaxed than the skin tight lycra. I wear them over liner shorts with chammy. I have a few pairs of these and have noticed that over time the material bunches up and creates a line where it is dragging over the edge of the under liner short. Future designs could have the extra layer at the seam go higher up the thigh to avoid this. Even with the line, I still prefer over anything else in the MTB clothing world

Please advise the inseam - is it the same as the Randonneur short at 31.5cm or different? Thanks, Bob

Asked by: Bob Ormerod
Hi, the inseam will be approximately 1cm longer than the Randonnée Shorts in the 32, but this will vary slightly between sizes.

Quickie re sizing; I usually wear S in Lycra shorts, but in casual wear jeans for example I'm between 30 and 31" (I get 31 where possible) and I wear them snug not baggy. Recommendations for size for these? 30 or 32... Thanks!

Asked by: theMUSETTE
Hi, it is always hard to advise on sizing as we all differ slightly. The Touring short does have a slim, tailored cut and we would advise trying the size 32. We do have a free 90 day return period should you find they do not fit.
