Lightweight Cycling Gilet

The Rapha Gilet is designed for changeable conditions during milder weather. It is windproof, water resistant and perfect for cool mornings, seasonal showers and brisk descents. Made from an extremely breathable matt fabric, the central back panel uses elasticated mesh for added breathability. At just 115g (medium size) the gilet packs down to fit comfortably into a jersey pocket.

The latest version uses contrast trim down the rear central panel to give a stylish accent. The gilet has a full-length, offset zip with a soft fleece chin guard to prevent chafing and a lockdown puller to eliminate rattles. The gilet has a long-cut back, and a dropped tail protects from road spray.

Friction locks on the waist cord allow for easy adjustment on the move and the gilet has two elasticated cargo pockets and an additional front zipped pocket. To improve visibility, the gilet has reflective piping around the arm holes and a reflective Rapha logo at the back.

"Super lightweight and well fitting gilet from Rapha that's so good we took other things off, just to keep it on."

"The Gilet holds up well under the sort of changeable conditions that it was designed for. It provides just enough protection from a quick downpour, drying out quickly afterwards, and cuts through the wind keeping your core warm. I found that I’d instinctively grab the Gilet when heading out in anything less than perfect conditions – a testament to its performance.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Rapha Classic Gilet II I've been wearing this Gilet in weather ranging from 3-14 degrees celsius. I must say that the gilet doesn't perform as well in the lower temperatures... Other than this, the gilet is light, packable, breathable and a very nice fit. There is a small zip 'pocket' on the side, but it can only fit maybe 2 keys and rolled up hard currency at most, while accessibility to this pocket while wearing the gilet is a feat - for me anyway. Overall, it's good quality but not a garment to feel warm in, rather, it staves off the cold and keeps the body at a comfortable temperature when riding above tempo. I'd say, this gilet is ideal for temperatures between 8-16 degrees, or during descents.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great gilet but pay attention to the fit type I chose this gilet over the pro team or lightweight versions as it has rear pockets. I normally wear medium (172cm tall, 70kg 96cm around chest) in pro team gear and even with classic items, and so I ordered this gilet in a medium. The fit was okay but I felt I had a little extra room to move, so I took a risk and returned the gilet for a small. Hats off to Rapha for their excellent return service, the small size fits perfect. Classic look with a race cut so for those who prefer this look, consider the smaller size depending on where you sit in the size range.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but not great Maybe I should stick to the Pro Team range as I prefer the race fit of it. I bought a medium (my normal size in Rapha) and I find there is a little extra material around the waist which I'd like to be tighter even with the cord tightened (Probably catering for the larger mamil market). Also the neck is quite loose and requires a neck warmer. I'd like it be be adjustable to cater for different neck sizes. However, the gilet is extremely well made and looks like it will last for years. It's very light and easy to fold up in a pocket. I mainly have used it for layering up over a pro team jacket in really cold weather or for wearing over a jersey on colder mornings. It's very windproof and keeps showers off too. I like the offset zip, but the zip itself is a little small and difficult to open with long fingered gloves. I have many Rapha products, but I wouldn't put this in my top 10 I'm afraid.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Death Ride Perfection I bought the wind jacket for the Breathless Ahony ride. It was so cold at Onyx Summit that they altered the route so we didn't climb that high. But we got high enough for it to register In the 30s on the descent. The jacket performed flawlessly. So much so that I decided to buy the gilet. The Death ride can go from 90 degrees on the climbs from the valley to 45 degrees at Carson Pass where there is stil snow on the peaks. This gilet with arm warmers was a perfect combo. It blocked the wind while not adding to body temp. The venting in the back allowed the air to escape so you don't sound like a flag cracking in 50 mph winds. Zipping and unzipping is easier than the wind jacket which I really liked. It packs down reasonably well. But the best part is that you get compliments on a piece of kit that is so perfectly functional. I will be testing this and the wind jacket in the Alps in a week. If I have anything else to say about it I will post. Meanwhile for those of you on the fence, I would definitely recommend this item.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Gilet I bought this for fall and spring riding. Very happy with the purchase as it is excellent over a longsleeve merino jersey when the temperature is between 5-15 degrees celsius. Neutral colour goes with most of my kit as well.

Hi. would a person of 6 feet be a medium in the classic gilet? I am not around the person to take measurements and it's a gift. Also, what is your return policy?

Asked by: Michele10
Hi, it is very hard to advise you without any measurements. It would be best to estimate based on their size. If they are six foot and average build, a medium may be correct. We do offer free 90 day returns so they can exchange the size if needed.

Hi, what is the weight of the classic gilet? How small does it pack?

Asked by: PhilH
Hi, the Classic Gilet weighs less than 150g and it packs up small enough to comfortably fit into a jersey pocket. An even lighter option would be the Brevet Gilet. Hope that helps.
