The definitive technical garment for changeable conditions

When Rapha began working with Team Sky, its riders requested a wet-weather shell that protected them from the elements, but also breathed well and didn’t cause them to overheat when going flat out. The riders also wanted to be able to easily access food in foul weather. The result was the development of the Rapha Pro Team Softshell Jacket.

Following feedback from Team Sky and riders around the world, the Pro Team Softshell Jacket has been updated with Polartec’s innovative Power Shield Pro fabric, which strikes the perfect balance between protection and breathability. This is a jacket for riders who seek the highest levels of performance in wet conditions.

Zips on the cuffs and an oversized puller make the jacket easier to put on – and remove – with gloved hands. On warmer days the jacket can be worn directly over a Base Layer, acting as a weather-resistant jersey. When the temperature plummets, pair with a Base Layer and Pro Team Jersey. The fit is in line with the Pro Team collection, with a slim and close fit suited to a low riding position.

The fabric

Polartec’s Power Shield Pro is a three-layer laminate. On the outside layer, a smooth and durable hydrophobic surface sheds water easily. Inside, a knitted surface contains a ‘micro-grid’ structure, a network of small squares to increase the fabric’s ability to wick sweat and disperse it quickly. Sandwiched between the two, the highly breathable Power Shield Pro membrane blocks 99% of the wind, while still allowing air and moisture out. The result is a jacket that is breathable, highly water resistant and insulating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible performance Only one ride so far but the conditions were ideal for a thorough test; 7 degrees C, heavy mist turning to heavy drizzle. The jacket is much lighter / thinner than the Mk1 version, now feels far more like a jersey. However, even with just a v-neck base layer I was toasty warm, having to unzip on the climbs (humid day). 2 hours of constant drizzle and u stayed warm and dry, the larger droplets eventually soaking into the outer layer but not reaching me underneath. Fit is slightly more relaxed than the Mk 1, I've downsized by 1 and the sizing charts seems accurate to me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Performance I chose this jacket over the classic softshell and am delighted with the performance, style and fit. 5-6 degrees in the pouring rain with only a short sleeved base layer was enough, even though the outer layer eventually soaked, it stayed nice and dry on the inside. 1 degree in the cold and dry demonstrated great windproofing, this time with the deep winter base, it was toasty warm. I'm 6'3" and 90Kg and in the XL, the longer sleeve length is absolutely perfect for the conditions that this will be worn. Would have loved some more colour choices though.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well suited for light rain I bought this three weeks ago and have used it twice. First ride - 6c no rain and I wore rapha base layer while doing a tempo workout - was comfortable and did not get soaked on the inside though there was lots of sweating. Seemed to breathe decently. Second ride in light rain and 5c. Outer shell held up well and kept dry - this was just an hour at medium pace. Love the fit as it is snug with a bit of room for under layers. I wear an xl jersey and I bought this in an xl. I would like a different colour - something more visible as visibility is always poor in the rain. Wondering how it will stand up in a heavy rain. In terms of care, I found it very slow to dry ( you cannot tumble dry it ). Would def buy again especially in a diff colour.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not just for wet weather I've been hemming a hawing about a jacket for the Chicago winters. I wasn't loving the styling of the Classic Softshell and didn't love the fit either when trying on at the Chicago pop up last summer. I thought I would give the Pro Tram SS a try as I love everything else I've purchased from the Pro Team lineup. So far I have had 3 rides in this, all around 25F. I've worn it with just a baselayer underneath and WOW has this thing been great. I've stayed nice and comfy on moderately hard rides of 3-4 hours with my baselayer hardly showing any signs of wetness. I was worried it wouldn't breathe well being that it is marketed as a wet weather jacket but this jacket rocks. So glad I stayed in the Pro Team line, the stuff is top kit. Thanks Rapha!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fantastic, but a bit slim I really like the fabric and how it performs and the style and features of the jacket. My only complaint is that other L size clothes from Rapha fit very well, but this one is a bit slim. I guess the Pros are skinnier than I am, for sure, so don't order this jacket if you are overweight (I'm just a bit overweight, 176 cm / 83 kg). The sleeves are quite long, so bigger size probably won't work for you. But if you are slim, you'll love this jacket!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from hail storming jacket on the first outing in my new pro team softshell jacket, it started to rain, then after an hour it turned into a serious hail stone attack and freezing cold conditions so headed home and after two hours of extreme weather i was still dry and warm! the next outing was on a 100 mile ride starting off in thick fog and sub-zero temperatures, by the end of the ride it was sunshine and 11 degrees. the jacket passed with flying colours. on both rides i just had a long sleeved rapha base layer. i'm super happy with the jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly technical softshell with a great cut I'm impressed with the softshell, the cut is slim but very slightly less so than some other Pro Team kit which I think is beneficial for layering. Plus points include the fabric which is breathable and weatherproof, very well-designed arm-cuff zips (they are set on the oblique which makes using them very easy), a long tail and the visibility of the chartreuse version. The only niggle for me is that, as others have commented, the neck is too wide and could be a tighter fit. Overall, this is a very well-fitting softshell and will become a staple item for me throughout Autumn and Winter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Impressed I have ridden this jacket in a range of weather conditions, from heavy drizzle, cool windy conditions, and intermittent warm sunshine and it has performed very well, resisting the rain wind well without over heating even on high intensity rides. I generally run fairly warm and use this jacket up to around 10-12 degrees on a high tempo ride, I suspect with a decent base layer it would be comfortable to down around 0 degrees. The fabric is very comfortable on the skin , not clammy and looks great. My only criticisms is the limited reflective features, limited colour choice (not may bright visible options) and I feel that the cuffs could be closer fitting/better designed to keep the wind out better.

Which jacket is the warmest for winter riding out of the pro team soft shell or the pro team training jacket?

Asked by: Alex_1996
Hi, the Pro Team Training Jacket is slightly warmer, although this is not a big difference. We recommend you choose the Pro Team Softshell Jacket if you are expecting a particularly wet ride.

Is this jacket a replacement for the rain jacket I carry in my rear pocket? Would it fold down small enough or is it to be worn during cold winter days from the start. I need a breathable rain jacket that I don't sweat wearing and keeps me dry.

Asked by: Big Gee
Hi, this jacket is designed to be worn as a layer immediately over a jacket. It is windproof and water resistant and has been made with a new, improved fabric for this season to improve these qualities. If you are looking for a Rain Jacket to place in a rear pocket, the Pro Team Race Cape and Rain Jacket are the best options.

how well would this work in san diego, riding in the early mornings, climbing and at a quicker pace, temps normally hover around 40-60 degrees F. when were riding.

Asked by: plthree
Hi, temperature ranges are hard to advise as each person will regulate temperature differently but this jacket should work well in quick paced early morning rides from 35-55. At 60 degrees you may be slightly warm whilst riding hard uphill. I hope that helps.

Hi rapha. I ordered large and it could be a little bigger. Would you recommend exchange size? I would love to try both large and xlarge first to decide so I am hesitant on returning first. Would you recommend ordering xlarge again and return one?

Asked by: Peter112
Hi, it is hard for us to advise on this. It is up to you. This jacket does have a close, race ready fit so if it is feeling too tight around your chest then it would be best to size up. You should always test the fit when in an on-bike position to assess the size effectively.

Hi there, I normally take a medium size for Rapha jerseys which is a perfect fit. Wearing this jacket with a jersey or base layer, how would the sizing work, would a M size be correct or should it be sized up to L. Thx

Asked by: CabbageMan
Hi, please refer to the size guide as far as possible. However, with the information you have provided we would suggest you try a Large. Should you need to exchange, we have a 90 days return period.

Hi there, are there any internal/waterproof pockets for things like phones/cash??

Asked by: Seaniek01
Hi, there is a zip side pocket for valuables and the central pocket with the shiny coating is very water resistant. We can't guarantee that in very heavy rain your phone would not get wet. It would be best to put your phone in a plastic wallet. I hope that helps.

Hi :) Is version 2 much different to version 1. If so in what regard? (Waterproofness / Range of temperature / Breathability) What issues were changes made to address / improve? Thanks Shane :)

Asked by: Slatanic1
Hi, the new version of the jacket has been designed with Power Shield Pro from Polartec. This fabric was used to improve the breathability of the jacket without sacrificing protection from the elements. This makes it more comfortable during hard efforts and prevents over heating. I hope that helps.
