World-Tour proven waterproof shell

On hard rides or races in changeable conditions riders need a breathable and waterproof outer shell that will protect them from the worst of the weather and won’t cause them to overheat. The Rapha Pro Team Race Cape is that garment.

This season’s updated version is made of a new performance fabric by Polartec that is both highly breathable and offers superior protection from the elements. Also new for 2016 is a small zip pocket on the left side of the jacket, for easy access to an energy bar or gel.

A favourite garment of pro racers such as WIGGINS’ Owain Doull, who says it “almost feels like a normal jersey”, the Race Cape is tailored for a close ‘Pro Team fit’ and has extra features such as zipped cuffs and fully-taped seams. The jacket packs down into a compact bundle and fits in a jersey pocket.

A dropped tail keeps road spray off of the back of your jersey, and the fabric has a slight stretch to allow the jacket to keep its shape over fully-loaded pockets.

The zip has a textured puller for easy use when wearing gloves, and the zipped cuffs make it easy to remove the jacket while on the bike, as well as providing ventilation. The cape also has a bonded strip at the elbows for you to cut around, if you prefer your waterproof short-sleeved.

Reviews:

"Rapha makes some bloody good kit and the Race Cape is a prime example. It looks great even in hard-to-pull-off fluoro yellow ('chartreuse' in Rapha-speak) and fit and comfort is superb. Designed with performance in mind - with input from Team Sky - it's snug, with a shorter front so it keeps its shape when you're on the drops. The zip has a storm flap, the cuffs are zipped, it breathes really well and is highly waterproof." - Cycling Plus, March 2015

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Workhorse jacket I bought the race cape just for wet rides but have used it more for a windshell in cold temps. It works beautifully in all conditions. I wear a merino base layer, Brevet long sleeve jersey and the race cape and I am comfy down to 30 degrees. The cut is ideal -- the sleeves are an ideal length and the cuff zips work well with long gloves. I wish Rapha would standardize the sleeve length. This jacket has perfect sleeve length but my Brevet jersey is too short in the sleeves. The slim cut of the race cap pretty much eliminates wind flapping and is extremely comfortable when in a riding position. Would highly recommend for all conditions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Expensive This is expensive! However, that said it is very good. Folks said a base layer and this would be fine and it is for me. Well made using some hi tech fabrics. Breathes well. You may still get a bit of moisture underneath but I think this is as good as it gets. The cuff zips are a nice touch. I bought a large as I'm not a slim Jim. I am 5'8" and 75kg with a 1cm layer of lard around chest and a very slight rubber tyre at my mid rift... ok maybe 30mm rather than 28mm tyre! Fits me perfectly all over inc arms. I wish you hadn't put Rapha logo on the neck line. Only time will tell if it lasts well but everything else I have from rapha

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A pretty good performance for the discounted price 2nd Pro team race cape, the look, fit and the feel is spot on as it is with most Rapha gear. Technically, its windproof, the water resisitnace/breathability are only fair, however the Lancashire weather would test any product to the max ! All in all I'm happy :)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Rapha Pro Team Race Cape As you would expect this has excellent build quality and is as close to waterproof as you can get with good breathability too. You'll still get damp underneath if your working hard. Comes up small but I think everyone knows that. But it is only just packable, you will do well to squeeze this in a jersey pocket particularly with the long arms and zips.

I wear x-small winter base and small pro team training jacket through winter. I'm looking for a packable jacket to wear over the top of that during rain and then keep in back pocket when not needed. What size should i get? Will it pack?

Asked by: davidmk
Hi, this is a great option for your needs. We recommend you choose a small and the jacket will pack into a jersey pocket.

What garmets would you recommend layering beneath this jacket for extended (8 hour) rides in cold (40F), wet and windy conditions?

Asked by: GreatScott
Hi, it will always depend on your own temperature regulation and exertion level. However, one option would be a short/long sleeve Merino Mesh Base Layer and a Pro Team Long Sleeve Training Jersey.

I am 177cm tall, wore training jersey, replica jersey & lightweight jersey perfectly but super lightweight jersey is a bit tight, any advice for pro team race cape in M size or need to go size up?

Asked by: Alex Y
Hi, this Jacket has a close, race ready fit in line with the rest of the Pro Team range. It will have a similar fit to the Super Lightweight Jersey as this also has a close fit. We recommend you order the same size as you wear in this jersey.

What about the sizing ? Normally I have Medium for jerseys and jackets . What's your advice ?

Asked by: Danman
Hi, if you wear medium in Pro Team Jerseys and Jackets we recommend you definitely choose the same size in the Race Cape. This product does have a close fit so if a medium is already on the tighter side for non Pro Team jerseys and jackets, then you may want to size up for the Race Cape.

Is the new version of the Race Cape as breathable (or similar) as the Pro Team Softshell as both use a Polartec material?

Asked by: Embles
Hi, these two products use a different Polartec material. The Race Cape is more breathable than it was last season and more waterproof on the front. However, it is not as breathable as the Pro Team Softshell Jacket.

Is this jacket the new version of the Hardshell Jacket?

Asked by: Amaro
Hi, this jacket is not the new version of the Hardshell Jacket. This product is not as warm as the Hardshell Jacket and is designed specifically for rain. It has a closer fit, in line with the rest of the Pro Team Range.
