Lightweight, packable, weather-resistant insulation

Long-distance riders can encounter a full range of weather conditions, so a lightweight layer that is both warm and packable is essential. The Brevet Insulated Jacket provides exceptional warmth, while highly breathable Polartec® Alpha® insulation ensures you won’t overheat during harder efforts. Extensively tested across a range of conditions: from the Transcontinental race across Europe, to the cold summits of Australia’s snowy mountains.

This versatile jacket is made for days when the weather is hard to predict. The fast-drying and hydrophobic properties of Polartec® Alpha® mean the jacket won’t hold water like natural down insulation and with a DWR (durable water repellent) coating you can watch the rain roll off.

Soft, brushed jersey side panels add warmth and allow the jacket to stretch over full pockets, while reflective detailing increases visibility in low light. When not in use the jacket rolls up neatly, secured by an elasticated loop at the neck.

Karen Whittier, product manager for insulation at Polartec, explains the science behind Polartec® Alpha®:

Polartec® Alpha® was engineered as an active insulation to regulate core body temperatures during both dynamic and static activities. This ‘adaptive’ breathability helps to eliminate the need for shedding or adding layers while on the move, making it ideal for cycling.

By keeping moisture vapour moving freely through the fabric, it increases overall air exchange and drastically speeds up dry times, providing thermal regulated comfort. Polartec® Alpha® is also highly compressible, made with a stable core that prevents ‘fibre migration’ to keep a uniform consistency, even after heavy wear and repeated laundering.

  • Quick-drying and hydrophobic Polartec® Alpha® insulation for warmth in all conditions
  • Self-storing (folds into band at neck) for easy packing

  • Wind-resistant fabric gives protection from the elements
  • Dropped rear hem for added protection from road spray
  • Reflective detailing throughout for riding in low light
  • Concealed valuables pocket
  • Lockable zip puller to prevent jacket opening while riding
  • Brushed stretch side panels add warmth and accommodate full jersey pockets

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect for all season Perfect jacket for many 4 seasons porpoises . Wind proof and enough in chilly conditions as external layer; breathable enought in mild weather and during night riding, compact enought to be packed in a rear pocket or in a small saddle bag. It's a kind of item I have been waiting from Rapha for... Now in my hands ! I suggest a size more to wear comfy over a light/heavy weight jersey. I 'm 179 cm tall and weight 66/67 kg normally while 64/65 kg during training conditions; my upper body diameter is between 102/106 cm depending on swim training. Medium size fit too tight and short on front while L size is a good compromise even if an M/L should have been perfect. My jRapha ersey size is Medium. Last but not least: great design in perfect line with my personal taste. It's a Must indeed !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's the Pants Even better than the insulated Gilet. The king of the winter pieces. This is a thermal vest, wind cheater, gilet and a good looking piece of clothing in one. A classic already. The hidden pocket was a nice surprise, too. Buy one size up if you're even remotely lardy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm and cozy! Almost TOO cozy! This piece is pretty awesome. I was a little taken aback when I first unpacked it and realized it was puffy - not like down jacket puffy but it definitely has a little bit of volume. This is because the Polartec Alpha is there to do its job. I took this thing out for a sub to mid 50's ride and was fantastic. Though, as a word of warning, direct sunlight and anything above 60 degrees is probably too warm for this, despite the Polartec Alpha as a light-weight. Its a well cut piece of kit, though it can be a little stuffy as the weather gets warmer. I would advise the vest if you're in more extreme temp swing areas - I'm in So Cal and probably should have gotten the vest. But no turning back now, and no regrets as this will be a good addition to winter evening rides. It packs..okay. Definitely fluffy and folds/rolls to about 4" in diameter so be prepared to empty pockets if you want to take this thing off. But beyond the stuffiness at warmer temps and the packing size issue, this thing is a fantastic buy for colder days.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All around winner This a "relaxed" fit BUT not loose jacket that really stretches those mid 40F jerseys into the 30's. Have not worn in wet conditions but warmth/weight ratio is 4 star AND very compressible. This is part of my go to kit below 45F. the polar stuff does add surprising warmth on the front of the arms. I find winter riding to be hard to judge as guess wrong by 10F and you suffer, especially chest. This is the best low side insurance.

Hi. Is this something that can be worn over or under a Pro Team training jacket?

Asked by: MattyD
Hi, this jacket could be worn over, but not under, a Pro Team Training Jacket in very cold conditions.
Answered by: Rapha_CD

What is the temp range? And how is the performance in cold temp compared with the pro team training jacket?

Asked by: WillyBar
Hi, this jacket is designed to be layered over a jersey whilst the Pro Team Training Jacket is worn on its own. When worn over a Brevet Long Sleeve Jersey, it can be worn in similar conditions to the Pro Team Training Jacket. In this outfit, an approximate temperature range would be slightly below 0-11/12 degrees Celsius.

How water resistant is this jacket?

Asked by: Brent
Hi, this jacket has a DWR treatment applied, making it water resistant and the insulation used is also very fast drying and works well in damp conditions. The jacket would keep you dry in a shower.

Hi Where does this jacket fit in the Rapha jacket range, temperature wise and what would wear underneath and how packable size wise is it in relation to other Rapha Jackets. Thanks

Asked by: GazdB
Hi, this is an extremely lightweight yet insulating jacket that packs down easily and provides breathable protection from the elements. It is great for long distance riding where you would encounter a variety of conditions and would be ideal to layer over a long sleeve jersey in temperatures from the low single figures upwards, depending on your personal temperature regulation and level of exertion.

How would this jacket compare to the classic winter jacket for warmth (think riding in below freezing temps)?  What would you consider rapha's warmest jacket?  Thanks.

Asked by: Scurl
Hi, this jacket is intended as an additional layer whilst the Classic Winter Jacket can be worn alone with a base layer. Our warmest jacket would be the Classic Winter Jacket or Pro Team Training Jacket.

If I'm a medium in your base layers, but a large in your pro team aero jersey and super light jersey, what size would you suggest? Thanks.

Asked by: Scurl
Hi, we recommend you choose a large.
