Lightweight, packable, weather-resistant insulation

Long-distance riders can encounter a full range of weather conditions, so a lightweight layer that is both warm and packable is essential. The Brevet Insulated Jacket provides exceptional warmth, while highly breathable Polartec® Alpha® insulation ensures you won’t overheat during harder efforts. Extensively tested across a range of conditions: from the Transcontinental race across Europe, to the cold summits of Australia’s snowy mountains.

This versatile jacket is made for days when the weather is hard to predict. The fast-drying and hydrophobic properties of Polartec® Alpha® mean the jacket won’t hold water like natural down insulation and with a DWR (durable water repellent) coating you can watch the rain roll off.

Soft, brushed jersey side panels add warmth and allow the jacket to stretch over full pockets, while reflective detailing increases visibility in low light. When not in use the jacket rolls up neatly, secured by an elasticated loop at the neck.

Karen Whittier, product manager for insulation at Polartec, explains the science behind Polartec® Alpha®:

Polartec® Alpha® was engineered as an active insulation to regulate core body temperatures during both dynamic and static activities. This ‘adaptive’ breathability helps to eliminate the need for shedding or adding layers while on the move, making it ideal for cycling.

By keeping moisture vapour moving freely through the fabric, it increases overall air exchange and drastically speeds up dry times, providing thermal regulated comfort. Polartec® Alpha® is also highly compressible, made with a stable core that prevents ‘fibre migration’ to keep a uniform consistency, even after heavy wear and repeated laundering.

FEATURES

  • Quick-drying and hydrophobic Polartec® Alpha® insulation for warmth in all conditions
  • Self-storing (folds into band at neck) for easy packing
  • DWR (durable water repellent) coating ensures that you stay dry in wet weather
  • Wind-resistant fabric gives protection from the elements
  • Dropped rear hem for added protection from road spray
  • Reflective detailing throughout for riding in low light
  • Concealed valuables pocket
  • Lockable zip puller to prevent jacket opening while riding
  • Brushed stretch side panels add warmth and accommodate full jersey pockets

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stylish and functional Very happy with the warm and wind block characteristics of this jacket. Wore it over top of light base and (now not available) Rapha winter jersey into NZ winter. Temp around 2degrees celsius. Didn't feel clammy at all. Just unzipped the jacket when on a long ascent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super versatile functional jacket Bought for a friend and I am assured it's a really excellent jacket. Would like to see a fully reflective version.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One ... to rule them all Functional, practical, lightweight and compact jacket. I have 179 cm height and L size fits perfectly (97 cm in chest). Size M was too narrow in the chest. The jacket is thin and it fits under my M-size windbreaker. So far I have used it exclusively during nighttime cycling (we have summer ...) and during camping.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent This jacket is easy to pack and very lightweight for an insulated jacket. Its kept me warm on my early morning rides and foggy evening rides. Its got a nice fit, its snug without being to tight. Will be my go to jacket for spring and fall riding in the cold north.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Favorite Jacket Fit is snug. If you want to layer more than just a base layer and a jersey, size up. I'm still figuring out the temperature range of this jacket but it definitely seems to be more of a fall/spring thing. I live in San Francisco and use this on really foggy days with a jersey and base layer underneath. Temps on those foggy days are probably between 52F and 62F. If you are riding hard, you could probably take this jacket out into the high 40s. Lounging around outside after a ride, this jacket continues to keep me warm as long as it's not too cold outside. It's super light weight but not that packable. It can be rolled up but it's just too big in a size medium to fit comfortably into a jersey pocket. Larger sizes would certainly not fit. I throw it in a handlebar bag on some days and that works better. Anyway, this jacket rules.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best jacket I didn't know I needed! The jacket I didn't even know I needed! So lightweight and warm. Not quite packable but perfect for those days when the chill is there but you still want a breathable product. And beautifully designed. Well done rapha.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a cracking piece of winter kit I christened this jacket last weekend on a frosty 1 degree C morning in Canberra. Fantastic! Warm and toasty, but then not too hot as the day warmed up. Breathes really well yet blocks the chill air. Definitely my favourite piece already.

How should I wash the insulated jacket? Could I put it inside a bag into the wash machine for cleaning it?

Asked by: Celso
Hi, we do advise to wash most of our clothes turned inside out and in mesh wash bags, specially if there are any items with Velcro in the same wash which really should be avoided. Temperatures are as per advice on web page for each respective garment.
