The RCC Summit in Sonoma County will soon be upon us, and Rapha’s North American office came to a collective realization the other day – there’s a lot to do in NorCal, and one weekend will never do it justice. A few of us will be booking out a couple days before and after the Summit to sample the Bay Area’s riding, culture, and cuisine, and if you’re travelling to the Summit we highly recommend doing the same. Stick around, ride your bike, and join us at the following pre- and post-Summit events.
Photo Exhibit and Drinks With World Bicycle Relief
– Wednesday, 6pm
The Wednesday before the Summit, Rapha San Francisco is hosting an evening with World Bicycle Relief, a charity dedicated to providing bicycles to healthcare workers, students, and entrepreneurs across rural Africa. The organization’s president, Dave Neiswander, will give a short talk and present a collection of photography of WBR’s work. Small bites and drinks will be served.
Exclusive Shopping Event
- Thursday 4-6pm
Summit attendees are invited to an exclusive shopping event at Rapha San Francisco on Thursday October 20th. Local brewery Fort Point will be serving complimentary beers, and Rapha will provide some surprise goodies. Remember, this will be your last chance to pick up any last-minute Rapha items before the Summit.
Stammtisch Gravel Ride With Post-ride Beers at Biergarten
– Thursday, 5.30pm
Every Thursday, the Stammtisch Ride leaves Rapha San Francisco to explore the roads and trails less travelled north of the Golden Gate Bridge. Stammtisch is German for ‘regular’s table’, and this is a ride with a regular cast of characters who convene for post-ride beers, food, and stories at the excellent Biergarten in Hayes Valley. The ride meets at 5.30pm and rolls at 6pm – all riders are asked to bring lights and plenty of layers. If you can’t make the ride, join us for the evening’s libations at Biergarten – it’s best to arrive at 7pm, and last orders are at 9pm.
Ride Hawk Hill With Rapha and Strava
– Friday, 8.30am
Hawk Hill is a rite of passage for cyclists in San Francisco, and we’d wager a guess that it’s also one of the most contested Strava segments – and if you want to fact check this, you’ll have ample opportunity at our post-ride tour of Strava HQ on Friday 21st October.
Hawk Hill sits just over the Golden Gate Bridge, offering a spectacular view over the city. The hill also offers the potential for three seasons worth of weather in just a mile and a half (making it perfect for testing out Rapha’s technical products), and our short loop can serve as the starting point for hundreds of unique rides on the roads and tracks that crisscross the Marin Headlands. The ride will end at Strava’s HQ in SoMa, where we’ll get a private tour, talk, and maybe the secrets of winning KOMs.
Meet at Rapha San Francisco at 8.30am on Friday 21st October.
Ride the Chris King Gourmet Century
- Saturday, Oct 29
Chris King is something of a gourmet, so it comes as little surprise that his century rides make the most of the Bay Area’s culinary culture. The rides themselves are described as ‘pleasantly challenging’, and the ride’s food can only be described as exquisite. Our friends at Chris King have generously offered a discounted rate of $150 for the Sonoma Gourmet Century, held the Saturday after the Summit. Simply use the code RCC2016 at their site’s checkout.
Ride Peddler's Fork Sufferfest
- Sunday, Oct 30
If your travels take you to Los Angeles, we’ll be riding the Peddler’s Fork Sufferfest Ride on Sunday October 30th. We’ve been promised beers, BBQ, and a technical course (pure road bikes are strongly discouraged, so bring a capable machine with beefy tires).
