Three-season weatherproof jersey made of a pioneering fabric

The Pro Team Shadow Jersey offers a revolutionary new approach to racing in bad weather. Using a stretch-woven fabric, this form-fitting jersey offers an unprecedented level of protection against the elements whilst offering breathable comfort under duress. This season’s jersey has been improved with a better on-bike fit, a reflective armband for visibility in low light and pockets with greater storage space.

Developed in response to a request from Team Sky for kit that lacked the bulk of heavy winter clothing yet kept their riders dry and comfortable in the worst weather, the Shadow collection was worn by the team throughout the Spring Classics races, most notably by Wout Poels during his victory in the snow, sleet and rain of the 2016 Liège-Bastogne-Liège.

Streamlined to compact to your body shape and in a race fit, the Pro Team Short Sleeve Shadow Jersey has ¾ length sleeves for protection on the arms. Taped seams on the jersey’s shoulders add another level of rainwater protection where it matters most. The textured, chunky zip pull is designed for ease of use when wearing gloves and the Pro Team-embossed gripper elastic on the rear hem keeps the jersey in place even during exertion. Three rear cargo pockets give ample storage and drill holes at the bottom of each one let rainwater roll straight out.

The Pro Team Shadow collection presents a truly revolutionary solution to an age-old problem in sportswear. Even the most expensive rainwear is usually made from a laminate material, with a plastic feel. This type of fabric traps heat and moisture close to the body resulting in a clammy jacket in which it is easy to overheat – not ideal for racing or hard training.

The fabric used in the Shadow range features a DWR (durable water repellent) finish, applied twice during the manufacturing process, making it ‘hydrophobic’ – water simply rolls off. The stretch-weave adds compression to create an aero fit and micropores allow heat to move across the fabric membrane and away from the body helping to regulate your temperature. With a soft, brushed inner the jersey can be worn comfortably over a base layer, or even straight onto skin. This is elite racewear, made without compromises.

What they say about Shadow:

“I travelled back home after La Flèche Wallonne especially to have my Shadow kit for Liège-Bastogne-Liège and it allowed me to perform at my best, even in that tough weather.” – Wout Poels, Team Sky

"The new Shadow range is the future - even though it's already here. In terms of wet weather clothing it's the best equipment that's ever come into cycling.” – Ian Boswell, Team Sky

"Rapha has discovered the Holy Grail in cycle kit - something totally and comprehensively water resistant that doesn’t boil you from the inside out.” 4/5. The Times

“Shadow performs superbly. The fabric is thinner and lighter than that used in the Castelli Gabba, but impressively offers comparable wind-proofing. Water repellency is superb and the best I have seen on garments of this type.” 9/10. Cycling Weekly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Holy Grail Of Waterproof & Breathable... Its very seldom that an item lives up to the marketing speil, even with Rapha. Things can be very good but never as good as promised. ... until now. Everything written about the shadow jersey (Mk: 2) is spot on. Before I purchased I wondered how it compared to the Gabba. Well ... the gabba is a jacket & the shadow is a jersey. Shadow is lighter, more breathable & so far 100% waterproof even after 2 hours in torrential rain. Its not especially warm but has been comfortable on tempo efforts with a base layer to 7 degrees. Lower & wetter than that Ive worn the insulated gillet over it & its been absolutlt perfect. Im 5' 7" @ 55kg & a small fits perfectly. This is the best item of wet weather clothing I have ... perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from spanish mountains made easy already have the Gabba jacket but you sweat like a bad 'un in that when climbing big hills. Last week, Late January, wore this with a Rapha summer under layer and 3500ft of climb without unzipping. Arm warmers on for downhill but well impressed with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A true rain jersey Even though I have a Gabba, I took a chance that this might be a bit thinner and more finished. IT IS. Wonderful fit, impeccably designed, this has gone to the top of the list when the weather is iffy. Thin enough to wear with a light base in moderate temps. A heavier base would allow it to be used in chillier climates. The one quibble I have is that the sleeves are a bit tight on the biceps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jersey for mixed conditions Used this jersey five times now in varying conditions including light rain to 1C temperature. It has performed really well and i didn't overheat when we started going uphill!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Keeps you dry This jersey works. Keeps you completely dry. It feels a little weird to wear, because of the waterproof coating, but it's totally worth it. Very impressive.

Asked by: JoeyK

What is the temperature range for the Shadow jersey?

Asked by: MGrayson60
Hi, it is hard to advise an exact temperature range as this will depend on your own exertion level and temperature regulation. However, this jersey can worn from 5/6-17 degrees Celsius, if combined with arm warmers for the cooler end of this range.
