Dave Yates has been building custom frames for more than 30 years. Self taught, he does it his way. Applying his engineering and metal work skills, he built his first frame and raced on it. His club mates showed interest and continued to make steel bicycles from then on. Setting up M. Steel Lightweight Cycles on Tyneside in the northeast of England, Yates and his team were producing a frame a week for racers all across the country.

With the advent of new materials and off-the-peg production in the Far East, Dave set up independently as Dave Yates. He’s a true stalwart of UK frame building with a worldwide reputation. His thirst for creating extends beyond bike frames, to things such as knives and walking sticks. His own experience of racing and long-distance riding makes him an ideal partner for the UK Rapha Continental.
