AW11 Sneak Peeks: Weather Proof

By Joe Hall • 19th September 2011 11:13am • Posted in Products

This season, Rapha’s cold weather protection sees some fine new colourways and exclusive technical fabrics. The details, tailoring and comfort of these products will make you want to ride, whatever the conditions.

With the temperatures already dropping off, leaves falling and the nights drawing in, here at Rapha we’re embracing the autumn in all its rustic glory: You have form carried over from the summer, the racing finishes (unless cyclocross is your thing) and one has the pleasure of riding simply for the sake of riding. Perhaps most tantalising of all, you can also lay your hands on the latest Rapha outerwear.

Here are a handful of clues for this group of close-ups:

• Ride fast and stay dry in this new colour
• A warm winter staple, with a new paintjob
• Classic product, different colourway
• If you train hard in winter, this is essential
• All city riders should have one

Rapha’s AW11 range will be viewable in its entirety very soon

hmm let me guess.

First one is rain jacket or wind jacket,
second long sleeve classic jersey,
third new performance long sleeve jersey,
fourth must be classic softshell jacket.
fifth maybe winter jersey
and the last one is city rain jacket.

or third is winter jersey and fifth new performance long sleeve jersey :)

Top Rigth is the new colour winter jersey, you can see it in the latest film, yellow one and red one intrigues me.

The yellow one is the pro-team long sleeve - given away in an earlier season Rapha promo. As is also,I would guess, the black 5th from the similar rear pocket design to the short sleeve pro jersey.

Retract that (even though I felt the need to say it twice?) - the pro jersey is coming out in yellow but I think the Winter Jersey may be the better guess? I shall prepare my bank account for the big reveal….

I think the grey is a new colour for the classic softshell?

Loving the flouro!

Matt Cartwright

19th September 2011 03:10pm

Yeah the yellow pic kind of looks too bulky to be the new pro long sleeve jersey, although i really hope is atleast somewhat lined for the colder weather.

Yes! A new classic: the Classic Softshell in white, as already spotted on the last photo of the new City Riding Socks! Want!

There had better be a Women's rain jacket… please… help me!

Austin Brough

19th September 2011 04:00pm

Sorry Ad - really think that softshell is grey not white. No bad thing on British roads in winter!

I reckon the flouro is another version of a Pro Team winter jersey - like the look of the black too from the movie previews earlier this year.

Ad Vermaas

19th September 2011 04:33pm

@ Austin: I agree with you; the same goes for the Dutch roads. It might be cream, but it really looks white and not grey (take a look at the last City Riding Socks photo). We'll see…

Austin Brough

19th September 2011 04:48pm

Ad, probably my dodgy computer monitor!

Ad Vermaas

19th September 2011 06:24pm

@Austin:
"A set of complimentary fenders, designed specifically for use with the white Classic Softshell, are perfect for wet rides and feature a reflective contrast striping." :-)

Joe Hall

19th September 2011 06:43pm

Ad and Austin,

The weather proof coating on the outer layer of the Softshell makes it easily cleaned at low temperatures. Just in case you like riding through puddles.

i really like all the video's rapha does but, what up w/ them always having "that guy" with no helmet on. didn't they learn a lesson when homeboy crashed in the Rapha USpro challenge video? i mean…ya i get it…old school is cool….but even my dad that is 63 who raced for 20 years as a cat 1 wears his helmet.

Stefan Rohner

19th September 2011 10:17pm

Roger, it is not old school, it about being soooo cool, like the rapha facebook smoking guy. ;)

Competitive Cyclist suggests

- Classic Softshell jacket will be coming in grey

- Rain jacket will be coming in red and also white.

laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaadies rain jacket *untold wet weather riding excitement*

Ad Vermaas

20th September 2011 09:42am

Thanks Joe, for your explanation, but were you referring to the white or the grey Classic Softshell? :-)

@Callum: I still put all my cards on a white Softshell…

Austin Brough

Matt Cartwright

20th September 2011 12:11pm

Yeah come on Rapha, lets see your wears, i waiting to order a long sleeve and don't want to before i see the L/S pro jersey.

Stuart Hannon

20th September 2011 02:19pm

Same here, wanting to get a long sleeve jersey, the bright colours of the pro jersey look good!!

Ted Bearfield-Smith

21st September 2011 01:08pm

Where is the winter jersey? I'm cold in the mornings.

Mark Sanders

21st September 2011 02:06pm

Come on you Rapha guys…….the suspense is killing me!

Stuart Hannon

21st September 2011 02:36pm

"Rapha’s AW11 range will be viewable in its entirety on 16th September"……………..

Joe Hall

21st September 2011 02:46pm

Those wretched Gremlins are still kicking about!

Stuart Hannon

21st September 2011 02:56pm

Those peskey Gremlins, let me at'em!!

Ad Vermaas

21st September 2011 06:32pm

These must be the grey Gremlins then, as Joe would never have spotted white Gremlins between the new white Classic Softshells. Am I right Joe?

Joe Hall

22nd September 2011 10:15am

Silver.

Kevin Maynard

22nd September 2011 02:16pm

Is this what your expression, "a little of the old 'How's your father?'" means?

Meanwhile I was able to view Pearl Izumi's winter 2011 line last February…

Ad Vermaas

22nd September 2011 04:07pm

Silver Gremlins?? Obviously, Rapha isn't taking its customers very seriously. Silver Gremlins don't exist. Pretty sure about that.

Matt Cartwright

23rd September 2011 11:00am

Oh man come on already. Its been two weeks!

Austin Brough

23rd September 2011 01:52pm

What's the latest Joe - fixed those gremlins yet?!

Joe Hall

23rd September 2011 01:56pm

If I'm honest Austin, we've had some last, last minute changes on our new range launch schedule. I can't tell you much more than that but I'm hoping (as is everyone else) that we can show you the entire collection next week! Apologies for this… It'll be worth the wait.

Austin Brough

23rd September 2011 02:07pm

Cheers Joe, and honest and intriguing answer! I shouldn't be so keen to spend my hard earned cash anyway………

Ad Vermaas

23rd September 2011 03:03pm

You see? Those silver Gremlins were a hoax. I knew it! Silver, haha!

Mark Sanders

26th September 2011 01:46pm

Hopefully you were delaying the launch so that you issue a Rapha version of the GB jersey in honor of Cav!!!!

Matt Cartwright

26th September 2011 01:51pm

Been waiting so long for this release the other blue long sleeve i was considerin has gone out of stock in medium blue!

Callum Duncan

27th September 2011 02:30am

Competitive Cyclist has some of the products up now

Rain Jacket (Black Team, Grey, Cream, Red, White)
… suspect the Grey & Cream are last year stock, the Red and White are new
… the Red is HOT, the white is not shown yet

Classic Softshell (Grey ONLY)
… the image shows a very light grey, it's almost white… but not!

Winter Long Sleeve Jersey (Black , Blue)
… black or blue with white band

Austin Brough

28th September 2011 08:02pm

Loving the new red rain jacket. The pro team jacket looks great too - might be my first foray into hi-viz!

Stuart Hannon

29th September 2011 11:36am

New stuff looks the biz, like the new hoody!

Ad Vermaas

29th September 2011 09:38pm

Callum, you were right about the Softshell. It seems to be grey, although under the Tech spec tab, it's called the silver colourway. Anyway, not white…
