The Rapha Guide to The Great Road Climbs of the Pyrenees

This book is a unique cycling guide to the great cols in the Pyrenees written for Rapha by writer and broadcaster Graeme Fife.

The Great Road Climbs of the Pyrenees’ is not a conventional guide to the Pyrenees. Facts and guidance is offered on obscure and well-known Pyrenean cols, but the gripping element is rather a highly personal exploration by Fife of the variety and peculiarity of the region that leaves the reader with a colourful and memorable picture. Fife combines careful historical research with a swift narrative style and supported by beautiful photographic portrayals of the imposing landscapes by Pete Drinkell, it gives persuasive encouragement to visit.

The Pyrenees is sub-divided into 8 distinct regions, covering all the major climbs in France and Spain. Over 320 pages, 90 climbs are described, with hand-drawn maps and gradient profiles.

The Great Road Climbs of the Pyrenees is a remarkably evocative piece of work. The words of Graeme Fife combine with the photographs of Pete Drinkell to create a portrait of the region that allows the imagination to run wild.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful book with extensive info Well writen prose and a inspirational guide to the Pyrenees –more an encyclopaedia experience of than a dictionary. More Michael Palin than David Attenborough. Impressive number of Cols covered, artistic photos and good printing quality. A coffee shop book that has a function beyond the coffee table. Now only remains a real life check. I'm planning a trip with my team for june-juli 2016, we only have a week, but I'm looking forward to meet some of the descriptions on my own. Small flaws or wishes for next ed.: Andora is not/ore only scarcely covered. The Slopes have all the facts stated - height, length, max gradient, except for average gradient (yes, you could easy calculate the avg. yourself, but it is handy for the quick overview).
