Lightweight, packable, weather-resistant insulation

Long-distance riders can encounter a full range of weather conditions, so a lightweight layer that is both warm and packable is essential. The Brevet Insulated Jacket provides exceptional warmth, while highly breathable Polartec® Alpha® insulation ensures you won’t overheat during harder efforts. Extensively tested across a range of conditions: from the Transcontinental race across Europe, to the cold summits of Australia’s snowy mountains.

This versatile jacket is made for days when the weather is hard to predict. The fast-drying and hydrophobic properties of Polartec® Alpha® mean the jacket won’t hold water like natural down insulation and with a DWR (durable water repellent) coating you can watch the rain roll off.

Soft, brushed jersey side panels add warmth and allow the jacket to stretch over full pockets, while reflective detailing increases visibility in low light. When not in use the jacket rolls up neatly, secured by an elasticated loop at the neck.

Karen Whittier, product manager for insulation at Polartec, explains the science behind Polartec® Alpha®:

Polartec® Alpha® was engineered as an active insulation to regulate core body temperatures during both dynamic and static activities. This ‘adaptive’ breathability helps to eliminate the need for shedding or adding layers while on the move, making it ideal for cycling.

By keeping moisture vapour moving freely through the fabric, it increases overall air exchange and drastically speeds up dry times, providing thermal regulated comfort. Polartec® Alpha® is also highly compressible, made with a stable core that prevents ‘fibre migration’ to keep a uniform consistency, even after heavy wear and repeated laundering.

FEATURES

  • Quick-drying and hydrophobic Polartec® Alpha® insulation for warmth in all conditions
  • Self-storing (folds into band at neck) for easy packing

  • Dropped rear hem for added protection from road spray
  • Reflective detailing throughout for riding in low light
  • Concealed valuables pocket
  • Lockable zip puller to prevent jacket opening while riding
  • Brushed stretch side panels add warmth and accommodate full jersey pockets

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favourite Rapha jacket so far. Great Jacket that covers so many bases and is by far my favourite. The insulation is incredibly effective and incredibly light. I would say that it sizes as my wind and rain jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect to wear, fits good and look cool :) awesome, looks incredible and perfect for easy to moderate bike rides. If the pulse is very high it gets warm. But for long rides and rides to show of it is perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! One of the most versatile pieces of cycling gear I've ever owned. Used it for commuting at temperatures down to -3C through New Zealand winter, for training rides and even for one very damp and chilly road race. Only shower resistant but still warm when wet.

Hi, what type of fit I should the brevet insulated jacket? I am sz small in the Rapha classic winter softshell, but sz M in the pro line. I'm about 5ft9 and 135lbs - not sure which sz to order. Many thanks...

Asked by: MarkyB
This garment, unlike the Pro Team collection has a relaxed fit so a Small size should be the best suited fit.

Is this usable as a waterproof layer, to keep the rain out, or would it be better to have a waterproof over the top of this in heavy rain?

Asked by: Jamie729393
This Jacket is treated with DWR (durable water repellent) coating ensures that you stay dry in wet weather but for consistent riding in the rain or heavy rain conditions it would be advisable to wear a waterproof garment on top.

Hi there. How is this different than the brevet long sleeve wind block jersey? I recently bought the long sleeve wind block jersey. It is incredibly versatile, I am highly impressed. Though I can't stand how small it runs.

Asked by: RichR
The Insulated Jacket features Polartec® Alpha® insulation that is breathable and water resistant. The Windblock Jersey does not have water resistant features, but does have more storage than the Jacket that is designed to be used in a layering system

How should I wash the insulated jacket? Could I put it inside a bag into the wash machine for cleaning it?

Asked by: Celso
Hi, we do advise to wash most of our clothes turned inside out and in mesh wash bags, specially if there are any items with Velcro in the same wash which really should be avoided. Temperatures are as per advice on web page for each respective garment.
