Lightweight, packable and water-resistant insulation

Long-distance riders often encounter a wide range of conditions, so a lightweight layer that is both warm and packable is essential. The Insulated Brevet Gilet provides exceptional warmth, while highly breathable Polartec Alpha insulation ensures you won’t overheat during harder efforts.

The gilet features a two-way zipper for easy rear-pocket access, reflective detailing for visibility, and a water-shedding DWR (durable water repellent) coating for added protection. The hydrophobic properties of Polartec Alpha mean the gilet won’t hold water like natural down insulation, and it is also quick drying. Mesh side panels stretch over full pockets and when not in use, the gilet rolls into an elasticated loop at the neck to stay tightly stored.

Karen Whittier, product manager for insulation at Polartec, explains the science behind Polartec Alpha:

Polartec Alpha was engineered as an active insulation to regulate core body temperatures during both dynamic and static activities. This ‘adaptive’ breathability helps eliminate the need for shedding or adding layers while on the move, making it ideal for cycling.

By keeping moisture vapour moving freely through the fabric, it increases overall air exchange and drastically speeds up dry times, providing thermal regulated comfort. Polartec Alpha is also highly compressible, made with a stable core… that prevents ‘fibre migration’ to keep a uniform consistency, even after heavy wear and repeated laundering.

  • Self-storing (folds into band at neck)
  • DWR (durable water repellent) coating

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bikepacking essential One of those rare items that went from being new to essential kit in a weekend. Great addition to bikepacking kit, versatile, works when wet and light. Used on all training rides and during TCR itself, was gutted to lose it of the pack of my seat pack during the race.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from How did I live without it? I bought this as I seem to suffer in the cold, I then started wearing it to work underneath my suit jacket instead of a big coat and didn't I feel smug! As you'd expect from a Rapha piece, this is high quality and you feel ready to attack the road the moment you put it on. Excellent insulation and ventilation in one garment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Rapha purchase to date I bought this gilet prior to a cycling trip to Yorkshire. Wore it EVERY day. Great little jacket. Very lightweight, good fit, with plenty is space to wear over full jersey pockets, good at keeping you warm too, yet small enought to pack away and carry. Back in the Midlands, and am still wearing it for almost ALL my rides.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant piece of kit Another brilliant edition to the Brevet collection. Essential piece of winter kit, providing a lightweight, breathable and packable gilet for both Autumn and Winter conditions. While thin and flimsy looking it more than punches above it's weight in warmth, added DWR completes the package.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So soft! I have this about two weeks and am so happy with the purchase - perfect outer layer in this cold winter and acts as a great wind block to keep all of the cold out. Certainly high vis. Sits really nicely around the shoulders. I know that this product previously had a two way zip and that would be the only improvement Rapha could make in my opinion.

The medium in the pro range is perfect for me, I have small for the city range and borderline small-medium for the classic range. Which size do you recommend for this gilet?

Asked by: Txema
The Medium fit should be a good fit. This Garment has a more relaxed fitting then the Pro Team Range and is more in line wit the Classic Range.

Hi, I'm looking for a gilet to accompany a lightweight jersey when cycling early morning in spring when temps are about 10-15 degrees- would you suggest insulated or standard gilet?

Asked by: Nick101
As we all regulate temperature differently it is hard to advice on the temperature range for individuals and differing exertion levels will also affect its properties. For cooler temperatures we would certainly recommend the insulated Gilet as it does provide extra protection from the outside elements.

If worn in heavy rain, will the insulation still provide warmth?

Asked by: Bugs
Hi, this gilet is not intended for use as an outer layer in heavy rain. It is water-resistant and Polartec Alpha is one of the quickest drying insulation materials available.

I have a brevet ladies windstopper jacket size med which is a perfect fit . What size would I need in the brevet insulated gilet?

Asked by: Helen 51
Hi, this gilet has a snug fit but this is not a women's specific product and so you may need to size down one size. As always, we do have a free 90 day returns policy if needed.

How does the brevet insulated gilet compare to the woman's rapha gilet in terms of fit in the hip and waist? As far as chest measure a medium insulated gilet is apparently equal to a large woman's. Just want to make sure I get sizing correct.

Asked by: lady_colnago
Hi, the Brevet Insulated Gilet has a straighter fit that does not come in as much at the waist and out at the hips like the Women's Rapha Gilet.
